Private Investigation Work

It’s been a while since I posted on here, as a matter of fact I’ve been so busy I forgot about this entirely. I’m one of many private investigators in Oklahoma City, and the competition is ruthless and tough. This year I’ve had a month long surveillance I’ve been working that finally came to a close two weeks ago. I’m finally getting caught up with the business side of running a private investigation agency.

Some new additions in the past year are a Black Lab and a Blue Heeler. The Lab has a laid back personality, but the Heeler is a firecracker. The Heeler is 8 months old and starting to get develop a sense of what’s acceptable and what’s not.

Back to the business of being a private investigator – I’ve started 3 new brands, and I’m working on developing an association for private investigators. I suspect I’ll probably run into some setbacks with this considering there’s an existing association, but it looks inactive judging by the web site, and I don’t see or hear about any legislative involvement from it. I’ve also started a private investigator YouTube channel. I’m also working on starting a private investigator podcast.

That’s all for now – oh yea, I’m still working on a sign off. I need to figure that out.

Social Media Endangers Some Business Owners

oklahoma city bodyguard serviceThere’s a growing trend of business owners being robbed late at night at their place of business or at their residence when they arrive home late at night. Investigations into this activity have shown many of these business owners have been profiled from business social media sites such as Manta, Google Plus, and other popular sites where business owners may list business address and their home address in some cases. Once they have been targeted for a robbery the suspects may use surveillance to learn their daily activities such as trips to the bank, time of deposits and their home address. In other instance the suspects plant GPS tracker on the business owners vehicles in order to track them. Most attacks and robberies happen in the victim’s driveway or garage when arriving home late at night. The attackers will then force the business owner to show them where the cash and valuables are stored.

What you can do to protect yourself

Don’t use your home address: When listing your business don’t use your home address. If you need to list an additional address use a post office box. This helps prevent the attackers from getting your address from a social media site.

Vary your routine: You can make it difficult to predict what you are going to do and where you are going to be by varying your routine. This means taking a different route to home and work every day, or every other day. Change up your schedule for bank deposits, arrival to work, and leaving for home.

Be aware of your surroundings: Make a note of someone you see hanging around your business or cars that always seem to be parked around your business, especially late at night. Pay attention to traffic and be on the look out for anyone following you while making a trip to the bank or on your way home. If you think you are being followed, keep driving in a well populated area and call the police.

Have your car checked for GPS devices: If see someone lurking around your vehicle or suspect a GSP device may have been planted on it, contact a private investigator or the police to have it thoroughly checked for tracking devices.

Hire a bodyguard: A bodyguard can escort you to your vehicle late at night if you don’t feel safe or there is an active threat. A bodyguard can also follow you to your residence and make sure you make it home safe.  In most cases a bodyguard agency will charge a monthly or weekly fee for this which is much less than their per hour charge. I offer bodyguard services in the Oklahoma City and Edmond area that cover situations such as this.

Background and Foreground Investigations

Private Investigations in Oklahoma City

background checks in Oklahoma CityThere are two type of investigations I frequently perform for pre-employment, pre-marital, and infidelity investigations, and those are a foreground check and a background check. These two types of investigations can provide a complete picture of an individual, their habits, and any past legal or related issues.

The Foreground Check

A foreground check is information gathered from readily available sources that gives insight into the character of a person. This may include posts and pictures made on social media sites such as Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, and Instagram. This could also include posts made online in other forums. Another type of check is a trash check. Private investigators in Oklahoma City area allowed to collect trash for investigation when it is put out for pickup. A persons trash can provide clues such as how much they drink, smoke, health issues, and in some cases financial and legal issues.

The Background Check

A background check includes more detailed information into a person past such as criminal records, law suits, divorces, financial problems, and assets. This information is acquired through research with courts, law enforcement agencies and county assessors. In some cases we can go as far as interviewing former employers, neighbors, and relatives to establish a persons character.

Preventing Stalking and Cyberstalking in Oklahoma City

Did you make it easy to stalk you?

Cyber Stalking private investigatorOver the past year I’ve had a lot of cases where people were getting stalked online, cyberstalking, and stalked in person. This may have happened to  you. You’re at the store, at a movie or some other event, and there they are, seemingly random and coincidental. Yet, something tells you there’s more to this. They seem to appear everywhere you go and you can’t figure out why. You may have made it easy to stalk you during the course of your relationship with the person stalking you, and in most cases it’s difficult to avoid. Sharing information such as your schedule, social media accounts, email address, and phone number can often be used to track you online.

Methods of Cyber Stalking Prevention

Don’t share your usernames and passwords and don’t leave them someplace where they are accessible to someone else. In a lot of my cases the victim shared their usernames and password with the stalker during their relationship. In other cases the stalker obtained the victims usernames and passwords from notes in the victim’s phone or from notes written down around their home or office.

Don’t accept friend requests or followers from people you are not entirely sure of or fully trust. Often you can be tracked down on Twitter or Facebook from uploaded pictures or check ins. If you can’t resist checking in on Facebook it’s a good idea to check in as you are leaving or after you have left the place. You should also disable GPS or geolocation in order to prevent your location from being recorded in posts and images you make to social media accounts.

Dealing with an Active Stalker or Cyber Stalker

Once you feel like or have confirmed you are being stalked you should take the following countermeasures:

Document everything you think is suspicious – This will help when filing a police report or it may connect events in some way later that determines how the stalker is tracking you down.

Change the passwords to your email accounts Often I have encountered cases where the stalker had access to the victims email accounts. This enables the stalker or cyber stalker to determine what’s happening in your life and even your schedule. If your email provides dual authentication, be sure and enable this for your account.

Change social media account passwords – The stalker may have reset your social media account passwords if they gained access to your email account. The stalker might also be logging into your accounts to see your posts or read messages to others. This means changing all your Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Pinterest, and other social media accounts. Again, if they offer dual authentication, be sure and enable it.

Change your iCloud account password – If you use iCloud this one is extremely important. If a stalker has access to your iCloud account they can log in and track you using the Find My iPhone tool. t’s as good as planting a GPS tracker on you. If you back up your iPhone to iCloud it also possible to download all your images, text messages and other important data without you knowing it happened.

Change your online backup passwords – If you use services like Drop Box or Google Drive be sure and change those password as well. If a stalker has access to these services they can use that to track you online or in person.

Change your privacy settings – Make sure all your online posts to social media are set to private so a stalker is unable to view them.

Block and delete the stalker – If you know who the stalker is, be sure to block their accounts from your social media accounts and email accounts. If you are connected to their social media account, be sure to delete or unfollow them.

File a police report – If you have enough information to prove someone has accessed your social media accounts, other online accounts, or email, file a police report.

Hire a private investigator If you aren’t sure if someone has accessed your social media accounts, other online accounts, and you still feel like you are being stalked – it might be time to hire a private investigator. A private investigator can review your documentation from any suspicious events, check your online accounts for access, and prepare a report for law enforcement. This can greatly assist in bringing your stalker to justice.

Missed Connections

If you want to increase your chances of finding a missed connection you should consider contacting a private investigator. With a few basic facts about the person I can usually track them down in 24-48 hours around the Oklahoma city area. If you can provide a little information such as a name, birthday, or employer, it makes tracking them down that much easier. As a private investigator in Oklahoma City I charge around $135 to $150 for this service, and it’s well worth it if you are serious about reconnecting with that special person.

 Missing Person Investigator

Ikea doesn’t like guns or cops

Takoma Park Police Chief Alan Goldberg said in 35 years in law enforcement he’s never had a store tell him that he would have to leave his service weapon in the car or leave — especially when he was in his police uniform.

But that’s what happened July 4 in the Ikea in College Park when Goldberg had stopped in with his daughter.

PI In Oklahoma City

Hiring a private investigator is a pretty simple process, knowing when you need to hire a private investigator is a little more challenging. There’s a popular misconception that private investigators spy on people, and that’s all they do. There are some cases where surveillance is a big part of what a private investigator does, but not always. A private investigator specializes in gathering information. The type of information I gather depends on the nature of the case. Some types of information I have gathered for my clients are in the past are criminal records, last known addresses, current addresses, makes and models of vehicles for people, locating witnesses, and court records. In other cases of a criminal nature I might be tracking down stolen property, suspects, or interviewing neighbors for clues to criminal activity.

So when should you hire a private investigator? You should hire a private investigator when you’ve exhausted all your resources for getting the information you need, or you just aren’t in a position to get the information yourself. In some cases the information may need to be gathered discreetly and privately, such as in an infidelity case or corporate investigation. In other cases you might need to hire a private investigator to pursue a criminal or civil case where the police or other agencies aren’t making progress, or simply don’t have the resources to pursue it.

Hiring a private investigator is the easy part. After you have assessed the situation and decided to hire a private investigator, it’s a simple as making a phone call or sending an email. When you call me about a case I will need to know what your case is about and who or what is involved. You can explain all this over the phone, or I can come meet with you at location of your choosing. Additionally, you can always email or mail me the information as well. After I assess your case and determine what action needs to be taken, we’ll discuss the costs involved. These costs are posted on my site in the rates section for your review. Once you agree to hire me, the costs are paid up from for some investigations while other long term cases require a retainer. There are no lengthy contracts to review or anything like that, unless you specifically request one. The next part of the process is for us to discuss case updates and outline how often and when you would like to receive them. On long term cases I like to update 3 times a week, while shorter cases may be reported on daily.

That’s as simple as it gets. If you have any questions or comments feel free to contact me directly and I’ll be happy to discuss them with you:

Infidelity – Some Advice From An Oklahoma City Private Investigator

Infidelity Investigations

Infidelity causes a lot of emotions; anxiety, fear, anger, rage, and depression. Infidelity has a lot of tell tale signs such as:

Emotional Distance:
They suddenly aren’t as affectionate, or seem apathetic and indifferent about their marriage.

Physical Distance:
They start sitting further away from you or may start sleeping more towards the edge of the bed. If they were likely to hold hands or have their arm around you while out in public, this might suddenly stop. This is a response that a cheater has to start distancing themselves from the marriage.

Changes in Schedule:
Their schedule starts to change – they might start going into work earlier or working later. If this happens with their work schedule you might start keeping track of the milage on their vehicle and compare it to the distance they travel to work. This might gives some clues that they might be going elsewhere before or after work.

A sudden interest in their appearance
They might start buying new clothes or get a gym membership and start working out. Another indication is that they suddenly start chewing a lot of gum or breath mints.

Changes with their cell phone
They might put a passcode on their phone or start keeping it put away out of view. Another sign is that they start texting more, clearing out histories and start making excuses to make short trips to places like the gas station or the grocery store. The reality is that they are making phone calls to the person they are having an affair with.

Unexplained doctors appointments or medications
Cheaters aren’t very smart and in some cases they might contract a sexually transmitted disease. The clues to this are bills to the doctors office or prescriptions they are hiding from you.

Know the verbal clues and the language they use:

“Left”
Sure, sometimes ‘left’ is the only word you can use in a situation, but there’s some kind of drama involved when they use it in place of another word that will do (think: “I left the work at six” vs. “I went home at six”)

“Never”
The big thing to look out for is when they say “never” when “no” will do. It’s a sign he’s overcompensating. For example, if you ask, “Did you just check out that person?” and they say, “Never!”

“That”
Like never, it depends on how they use it. If they put “that” in front of a noun, like “that woman” or “that man,” it’s a subconscious attempt for him to distance himself from the word. This is a common trick of manipulators.

“Would”
If they skip “no” and goes straight to “I would never do something like that!” when talking about a past event, be wary. For example, “Are you still talking to your ex?” “I would never do that to you!” “Would never” suggests that they plan to do it in the future.

“By the way…”
Liars use phrases like this to try to minimize what they say next-but usually it’s what’s most important to the story. Pay extra attention to what they say afterward.

“But”
Liars usually try to downplay what they say with this word, so pay attention when they say something like, “I know this is going to sound strange, but…” or “I know you think I’m lying, but…”

“Why would I do that?”
It’s a favorite stalling line of liars, so they can buy a little time to work out what to say next. These phrases also fit the bill: “What kind of person do you think I am?”, “Are you calling me a liar?”, and “I knew this was going to happen to me!”

What can you do?

If you think your spouse is cheating, then give them room. As the saying goes, give them enough rope to hang themselves. Let them have their night on the town with the boys or girls and then call a us to place them under surveillance. We can get the proof you need to determine if they are having an affair. If they want to cheat, there’s nothing you can do to stop a cheater – they will find a way. You either trust your spouse or you don’t, and that’s not about them, it’s about you.
